FAMILY POOLS RECOMMENDS THAT YOU:
Place all equipment such as vac heads, hoses, brushes, nets, poles, auto cleaners, etc. in the pool.
Shock the pool heavily, at least twice the normal shock dose.
Vacuum out any visible pink growth then clean the vac head.
Sponge out all fixtures and ladder treads and throw away the sponge.
Repeat the process as much as necessary until the bacteria is gone.
Unfortunately, this bacteria gets on solar covers too. If you have a solar blanket on the pool when you experience this pink slime then you should put the solar blanket back on the pool after you shock it then rinse it thoroughly the next day or you could thoroughly clean the cover with a diluted bleach solution and rinse. As you might imagine, plastic covers exposed to these high levels of chlorine for prolonged periods of time will shorten the life of the cover. Chlorine is the best enemy to this bacteria
